Dear LVCS Parents and Guardians, Saturday, September 12, 2020
Thank you for taking the time this week to meet with teachers. In spite of the tragic fires raging across our beautiful state, we had an excellent turnout. It was a joy to visit with new and returning students and families. We appreciate your patience with a later start date for instruction to begin. We needed the time to ensure a quality model, and our teachers have worked hard to create an engaging but structured Distance Learning experience for our students. As a reminder, instruction begins Monday, September 14th!
The chart below reflects our progress towards opening our schools at K-3 & 6-8, under the exception criteria.
As a reminder, the metrics for opening schools under the Exceptions criteria are:
- The case rate per 100,000 must be 30 or below
- The Test Positivity rate must be at or below 5%

The metrics for the past 3 weeks have been encouraging. We did meet the test positivity metrics (3.9%) for the week of 8/16. We are moving in the right direction, but we are not yet where we need to be. As requested, I will continue to send you updates until we meet the metrics for opening.
Update on Packet and Supply Exchange:
Some grades will still be including learning packets with their online instruction. Our plan for transfer of learning packets, books or other resources will be similar to what we offered in the spring. Completed work will be turned in and new assignments will be picked up. The exchange will be every Thursday, 5:30-6:30.
The locations are:
1.) Dallas Academy Building Parking lot
Enter at the north main entrance then turn right near the grassy area. You can park, pick up your child’s packet and exit at the south driveway.
2.) Calvary Chapel, located at 1475 Monmouth St, Independence, OR 97351
This is next to what was formerly Roth’s Parking lot. Staff will be in the parking lot near the front porch of the church.
If you are not able to come to the exchange locations, you can pick them up on the Bridgeport campus Friday mornings, 8:00-10:00. If you arrive after 10:00, you can park on the road and walk around the gate. There will be boxes on a table by the office where you can pick up or drop off packets. A staff member will come by at the end of the day to bring the packets inside.
I know educating students during COVID-19 is really hard on our students and families. For those of us who chose teaching as our life’s work, we were heartbroken that we were not able to open our schools. I want you to know we are available to support you and your children. If you are having challenges with technology, academics or just need someone to talk to, we are here for you.
Take Care,
Christy
