What is Farm to School?

Farm to School is broadly defined as a program that connects schools and local farms with the objectives of serving healthy meals in school cafeterias, improving student nutrition, providing agriculture, health and nutrition education opportunities, and supporting local and regional farmers. Procurement and Promotion

  • Harvest of the Month (one product each month)
  • Ongoing Local Purchasing

Educational activities can include:

  • Lessons about food and agriculture
  • Farm field trips
  • Cooking with local foods
  • Tasting tables
  • Nutrition lessons
  • School gardens

Family activities can include:

  • Family outreach events
  • Family field trips
  • Resources for low-income families

  1. I love the potential in this program. I applaud the school board for pursuing this. Teaching our children about the food they are eating and the work involved in growing/preparing that food is life long knowledge. I would love to hear updates on the progress of this program in our school.
