8th Grade – Daniel Shimek

My name is Daniel Shimek, I have been part of Luckiamute Valley Charter Schools for the past four years. I have enjoyed being at the Pedee Campus, teaching 7th and 8th grade Science and math. For the past two years I have coached our Lego Robotics Team, which participates in the Mild Valley First Lego League. I have always believed that students need to get a little dirty to get a true understanding of science. Teaching at LVCS has allowed me to take students out into the field and do what scientists do.
I grew up in Southern Oregon and moved to the Willamette Valley after graduating from high school to attend Western Oregon University. I graduated from Western with a degree in Elementary Education, and taught Pre-School in a Head Start program in Silverton for five years. I started working on my Masters of Arts at Pacific Oak College in Seattle, while working at Head Start. In my years since leaving Head Start I have taught a wide range of students from Kindergarten to college computer classes. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children. On rare occasion I get out fly fishing for trout and steelhead.
